Private School Kids are Snobs

Filthy Rich. White. Exclusive. Privileged. Coddled. Clueless. Sheltered.

The stereotype certainly exists for a reason. Many argue that the very existence of private schools widens wealth and racial inequalities in our country.

The Springwell student couldn’t be farther from that trope. At Springwell, we “hold both poles.” We believe in innovation through progressive education and are fervently committed to diversity and inclusion, as well as access to our programs regardless of income.

Baked into our very foundations are the values of access, diversity, and inclusion.

From a racial standpoint, 60% of Springwell’s Founding Class is “diverse” or non-white. Ethnically speaking, our families represent cultures from all around the world. Springwell is Chinese, Dominican, French, German, Ghanaian, Italian American, Jewish, Nigerian, Singaporean, Taiwanese, and Vietnamese. We are 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4+ generation Americans.

Springwell is just as fervently committed to socio-economic diversity. Over 50% of our student body receives discounted tuition through our sliding scale program. One third of Springwell families pays less than half of the maximum tuition amount.

Springwell only works if we are diverse

At Springwell, access, diversity, and inclusion aren’t just boxes to check to be politically correct, or to be on trend. It’s the right thing to do. We know that in order to properly prepare our students for the world, we must allow for broad access, and we must be diverse across all social identities. Our academic program will not meet its goals if we are not accessible, diverse, and inclusive.
