Happy Pride Month Springwell Families!

This Pride Month, we are proud to spotlight one of our incoming Springwell parents, Rachael Rose-Stern, a fierce advocate, and her lovely family.

ABOUT RACHAEL

Rachael Rose-Stern has been a champion for LGBTQ people since she was old enough to teach workshops on heterosexism in middle school. Luckily, she went to an independent school based on diversity and social justice and spent her formative years immersed in concepts that would fuel her career — much like what she hopes to give her daughter Delaney (and later twins Ruby and Saige) at Springwell.

Rachael started and ran the LGBTQ center in Brooklyn, NY, worked on marriage equality out of then speaker Christine Quinn's office and moved to Maryland where she helped lead the team that passed marriage equality at the ballot box for the first time in world history, worked on Trans public accommodations, and so much more. She spent years defending Planned Parenthood against attacks and congressional investigations and ensuring all people have access to reproductive health care.

Coming out as bisexual in Los Angeles, where she grew up, was one thing, but she learned to do the work as an activist and student in Lincoln, Nebraska. She talks about being inspired by the bravery of her peers who had very different upbringings than she was lucky to have. Growing up in a school like Springwell gave her the gift of thinking for herself, learning to examine privilege deeply, and to see how everything works together.

Rachael, Sadie and Delaney (and Ruby and Saige) are very excited to join the Springwell family this fall!

At Springwell, we are so proud to have Rachael as part of our community and are excited to have the whole family join us this fall!

Happy Pride Month to all!
