Earth Day, Every Day

The Springwell Community happily celebrates Earth Day every day!

Springwell’s Cooking and Gardening Program

Springwell’s cooking program is led by Mr. Alden, who has previously served as a professional chef at a sustainable cafe, and has established many a school garden, including Springwell’s. The students made an Ancient Grains Greek Salad and Hummus using lovely vegetables and herbs from our school garden. The students learned about healthy and harmonious food that is good for people and the planet.

This delicious salad was made of farro, garbanzos, freshly harvested garden kale and herbs, cucumber, cherry tomato and bell peppers along with plenty of citrus and olive oil. The hummus recipe involved lots of unit conversions and fractions and was everyone’s favorite dish!

Student-Led Composting

Today, our lovely school community will continue celebrating and honoring Mother Earth by officially kicking off our student-led compost program. Worms, worms, worms!

Support from the Chesapeake Bay Trust
